What to Eat After Wisdom Teeth Surgery

In the world of medicine, the action of extracting wisdom teeth is called odontectomy. The duration of healing after wisdom teeth surgery is about 1 week or even more. This recovery is very dependent on patient compliance with the recommendations given by the doctor, including in terms of food.

Odontectomy is generally done when wisdom teeth grow abnormally. Usually these teeth grow only partially with the position of the teeth tilted, or even not grow at all but embedded in the bone.

Post extraction of wisdom teeth can be a painful experience for patients. Following all instructions given by a doctor can minimize the risk of complications that can occur. And helps reduce pain and swelling that will arise afterwards.

One of the important things to note for post-contectomy patients is food selection. Eating healthy foods after extracting wisdom teeth is vital, because nutrition can help heal wounds. But indeed, eating activities will be difficult and painful for the next few days after the operation.

The following foods can be consumed after taking wisdom teeth, namely:

1. Liquid food

Eat liquid food such as soup after taking wisdom teeth. This type of food makes you do not need to do chewing and no foods will enter the former extraction cavity.

Besides soup, you can also make foods such as smoothies with a mixture of fruit or vegetables to provide nutrients for the body. Things to remember, avoid using straws when drinking it because sucking using a straw can damage blood clots and make the blood coming out of the extraction area increase.

2. Soft food

The day after extraction, you can increase the texture of the food to be denser but still soft. For example porridge, mashed potatoes, cereals, or oatmeal. These foods can also be a source of energy for you. It's best to avoid eating it when it's still hot, wait until it's warm.

Chewing solid foods can help loosen masticatory muscles. To eat these foods, you can just chew on one side for several days. After the pain has diminished, you can increase the texture again as usual. But if the pain arises again, you can return to soft food.

3. Yogurt

Yogurt is a dairy product that has good nutritional value. It contains protein, vitamins, minerals, and calcium which can accelerate wound healing. This food is also soft-textured so that it can be consumed after extracting wisdom teeth.

In addition to eating the foods above, to speed healing wounds after surgery, you can also rinse your mouth using a solution of salt water. This method can help reduce pain and discomfort during healing.

Avoid foods that are hard-textured, sticky and hot or cold, because these foods can slow down the healing process.

Do not forget to keep cleaning your teeth and extraction area slowly, and control again with your dentist. You also need to take medicines that are given as recommended and have enough rest. Just eating healthy and proper food is not enough to speed up healing after wisdom teeth surgery.
