Symptoms of painful under arm lumps

A painful lump in the armpit is usually characterized by lymph nodes or skin. Lymph nodes can drain fluid and waste products that accumulate because of normal physiological functions. Lymph nodes contribute to the immune response to infection. Certain conditions can cause the lymph nodes to become enlarged and painful, and the lymph nodes in one or both armpits may be affected. In addition, underarm skin is susceptible to conditions that cause painful bumps due to the effects of sweat, friction, bacteria, and hygiene practices.

Systemic infection: Infection throughout the body can cause swollen and painful lymph nodes in many locations, including underarms. Other symptoms may appear, such as fever and fatigue.
