The medical condition of the coccyx is usually called coccydynia. Coccydynia or coccyx pain is a condition when the tail bone is inflamed due to a stimulus, and as a result this inflammation causes very disturbing pain. Most people who experience coccydynia experience blunt pain (such as pressure) and muscle spasms.
Various health problems from mild to serious can cause sore tail bones.
This pain may arise from trivial things like sitting on a hard bench for too long or bumping into something.
- Trauma during childbirth. The coccyx in this case is injured or even broken during the birthing process.
- Compression or pressure during pregnancy. During pregnancy, the greater the trimester, the greater the pressure toward the sitting bone. This makes the coccyx easier to experience pain
- Levator syndrome. This is a condition that causes muscle spasms in the anal muscles. This pain will also spread to the coccyx.
- Problems with the spine. For example, a spinal cord injury, spinal surgery, this can also cause pain in the coccyx.
- Obesity, whether it's overweight or obese. This can increase the pressure on your tailbone area
- Infection or tumor
There are various ways that can help overcome your tail bone pain.
1. Medicine
If this pain is already great, taking painkillers is one way you can do it. You can buy generic painkillers that can be purchased without a prescription. For example, ibuprofen, aspirin or acetaminophen.
In addition to drinking drugs, you can also use a cream in the form of pain relief.
In more serious cases, painkillers and creams are no longer effective and the doctor recommends injecting drugs directly into the area around the coccyx. The doctor will inject steroid drugs, or nerve blocks.
2. Take a light stretch
If you are strong enough to exercise, you should stretch lightly so you can stretch the muscles around the coccyx.
However, indeed not all people with coccyx pain can stretch directly. This depends on the cause of the pain that appears. If indeed you are safe to exercise, please do a stretch that involves the active movement of the coccyx and surrounding muscles.
3. More moves
Coccyx pain often gets worse when sitting too long. So, it's best, try to reduce sitting time and finish with running time for several minutes.
Or you can switch to using a standing table, a table that makes users have to stand up. Or use a donut pillow (which has a middle hole) to reduce pressure on the coccyx when sitting.
If the sore tail does not get better after doing this, you should immediately consult a doctor. The reason is, in some cases the coccyx can become a sign of cancer or a tumor. However, if you are sick because of a broken bone, you will be asked to do a further medical examination, such as an x-ray.
