5 Steps to Keep Your Nose Clean and Healthy

Never feel a blocked nose until finally the nose is a sense of smell that is part of the human respiratory system. If the nose is problematic, of course you will have difficulty breathing with relief. In order to keep your nose clean and healthy, follow the following treatment steps.

Steps to maintain clean and healthy nose

Do you know how your nose works? Initially the air is inhaled by the nose, passing through special nerve cells to detect a smell called olfactory. Then, the nerves turn odors into information and send them to the brain for translation. The brain will recognize the odor to be more specific, such as fragrant roses or the smell of garbage.

In addition to detecting odor, the nose also filters oxygen to be sent throughout the body. The hair around the nose also cleanses the air from foreign particles. The clean air will move through the nasal passages, warmed and moisturized before entering the lungs.

In order for you to breathe freely and recognize any odor well, nose health needs to be considered. Follow the steps below:

1. Avoid pollutants and substances that irritate the nose

Cigarette smoke, pollution and dust are enemies of your nose. This irritant reduces the effectiveness of the nose to filter, warm and moisturize the air. As a result, the sinuses will swell and clog and trigger worse allergic symptoms.

To reduce exposure to these substances, stop smoking. As much as possible to stay away from people who smoke and wear nose masks when going out.

2. Drink lots of water

Your nose produces mucus to trap dirt from inhaled air. One way to support the health of the nose in producing mucus remains normal - stays thin, flows smoothly, and the amount is enough - you have to drink lots of water.

Besides water, you can also replace it with fruit juice or milk. Unfortunately, milk products in some people can cause mucus to thicken and be prone to causing congestion in the nasal passages. So, keep watching how much you drink milk per day. In addition, limit the habit of drinking alcohol because this drink can thicken mucus in the nose.

3. Reduce the habit of picking nose

Picking up can indeed cleanse the nose from clogging dirt. However, it is also susceptible to irritation because the nose has many small blood vessels that are very fragile.

When your finger enters the nasal droppings, your nails can hit the vessels. As a result, blood vessels will rupture and cause you nosebleeds.

According to Dr. Brett Comer, a head and neck surgeon and teaching assistant at the Otolaryngology Consultation at the University of Kentucky explained the negative effects of picking nose health.

Once the blood vessels break, the healing process takes a long time. Especially if it causes the inside of the nose to hurt, it takes several weeks to heal completely.

Picking with dirty nails can also increase the risk of infection. This can cause the formation of abscesses (small pus-filled lumps) in the nose.

4. Keep the air moist

Dry air can trigger allergies and cause nose bleeds easily. In addition, dry air also reduces the sharpness of the work of the nose to trap dirt entering the air. To keep the air moist, you can use a humidifier in the office and bedroom. You can also take a bath or take a hot bath to moisturize the sinuses.

5. Diligently clean the nose

Compared to picking nose, the health of the nose will occur more if cleaned using saline spray. The method is quite easy, follow the steps like:

Prepare sterile saline spray and isotonic salt liquid.
Position the head slightly forward and tilt your head slightly to the right or left.
Add saline water to the upper nostril in a tilted head. If the saline spray is inserted to the left, the head must tilt to the right, and vice versa.
Then spray the saline liquid into the nostrils slowly. Don't breathe, but let the water out over the other nostril.
Remove the rest of the water such as snot, but not too tight. Spray alternately.
